A new exhibition on the work of Ottoman Empire architect Mimar Sinan is based on Alumna Fellow (86'-87') Gülru Necipoğlu's book. The exhibition is on view at the Tophane-i Amire Culture & Arts Center in Istanbul, Turkey through May 31, 2015. Following completion of its İstanbul stint, the exhibition will go on a national tour with stops in Kayseri, Ankara, Edirne, Bursa and İzmir. It will later head abroad, to be exhibited in major cities of the world, from Europe to the Far East.
The exhibition, titled “Mimar Sinan ve Mimari Dehanın Şaheserleri,” chronicles the architect's life and work under eight subcategories, outlined in accordance with Necipoğlu's The Age of Sinan: Architectural Culture in the Ottoman Empire (Reaktion Books, 2010). Necipoğlu is professor of Islamic art and director of the Aga Khan program at the Department of History of Art and Architecture at Harvard University.
