Hidetaka Hirota, a Society of Fellows fellow from 2013 - 2016, was recently featured on C-SPAN, and in TIME Magazine and American Quarterly.  Hirota's C-SPAN interview on 19th-century Irish immigration was recently featured on the program American History TV where he discusses his recent book Expelling The Poor: Atlantic Seaboard States and the Nineteenth-Century Origins of American Immigration Policy. >>

David Gutkin Co-Edits Special Issue of the American Music Review


Fellow David Gutkin recently co-edited (with Marti Newland, a Core Teaching Fellow at Columbia) a special issue of the American Music Review on opera in the Harlem Renaissance. They also wrote the introductory article, "H. Lawrence Freeman and the Harlem Renaissance." The issue features selected papers from a conference hosted last summer at Columbia called "Restaging the Harlem Renaissance: New Views on the Performing Arts in Black Manhattan". >>
