David E. Cohen has been on faculty at Columbia University, Harvard University, and Tufts University. A PhD graduate from Brandeis University (1994), his research is on the history of music theory from Greek antiquity through the nineteenth century. His article, “‘The Imperfect Seeks its Perfection’: Harmonic Progression, Directed Motion, and Aristotelian Physics” (Music Theory Spectrum, vol. 23) received the 2001 Best Publication award of the Society of Music Theory. He is currently completing a book on the history of the concepts of consonance, dissonance, and harmony.
